In Loving Memory of Preston

Preston was a fisherman at heart—a soul most at peace with a rod in his hand and water at his feet. Whether chasing walleyes at sunrise or swapping stories after a long day on the water, Preston lived for the simple joys found in fishing, hunting, and being surrounded by those who shared his passion for the outdoors. He lived life wide open.

Preston was deeply grateful for the fishing community that welcomed and supported him throughout his life. We are especially thankful for the National Walleye Tour and the many professional anglers who took Preston under their wing, sharing their knowledge, encouragement, and friendship. Their guidance meant more to him than words could ever express. Preston’s competitive fishing passion was ignited at just 15 years old when he began working as a first mate for Erik with Cool City Charters—an experience that helped shape not only the fisherman he became, but the young man as well.

Preston was incredibly proud to work alongside a great group of guys at Manitowoc Public Utilities. He often came home with the biggest smile, laughing and sharing stories of the day’s work and shenanigans. He was actively pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, with hopes of building a full-time career with MPU—something he looked forward to with excitement, purpose, and determination.

A special thank you goes to Tilke at Smokies Musky Shop, who treated Preston not just as a fisherman, but like a son—an act of kindness and love Preston held close to his heart.

Above all, Preston’s biggest support and closest buddy was Puppa Bob. They shared a deep love for the outdoors, trading secret fishing spots, baits, and techniques. Puppa could do no wrong in Preston’s eyes. Preston was truly an old soul who cherished anything that came from Grandpa, valuing wisdom, tradition, and the gift of time spent together.

Preston had a fierce, unwavering love for his entire family, including all of his cousins. Family meant everything to him, and he showed that love through loyalty, humor, and always showing up for the people he cared about.

Preston will be profoundly missed by his best friend and little brother, Grant. Their bond was unbreakable—filled with loyalty, laughter, and love. Preston also leaves behind the love of his life, Emily. He loved her beyond words. Thank you for loving Preston and for being such an important part of our family.

And Preston—while we joked and gave your dad a hard time—he is heartbroken. He lost his best friend, his fishing partner, and his boy.

Though Preston has cast his final line here on earth, we take comfort in knowing that heaven is hosting a fish fry in his honor—and that the fish here on earth are now swimming a little safer. His spirit lives on in every ripple of water, every early morning launch, and every story told about “the one that got away.”

We would also like to thank everyone for the overwhelming outpouring of love and support during this incredibly difficult time. We are truly blessed with the very best family, friends, and community anyone could ask for, and we are deeply grateful for each and every one of you.

Preston will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him, fished beside him, and loved him.

Preston, we know how hard you fought. Our promise to you is that we will continue to stand strong and seek justice. You showed incredible bravery, trusting in your heart that you would be with Jesus. We know you are safe now and in good hands. Momma’s got it from here, kid.

Preston will be deeply missed by his loving parents Scott and Jill Yindra; his younger brother and best friend, Grant Yindra; grandparents, Robert (Bob) and Judy Wanish, Emil (Butch) and Debi Yindra; his beloved girlfriend, Emily Zeman; his aunts and uncles, Chris and Amy Cisler, Kari Wanish, Doug and Cory Yindra, Jon and Stacy Yindra; his cousins, Lily (special friend, Thomas), Anna and Owen Cisler, Keeghan, Lilly, Easton Yindra, Taylor Scheidt, and Amaya and Bentley Kakatsch. Preston is also survived by his two favorite dogs, Berkley and Riggs.

Preston was preceded in death by extended relatives and his buddy, Paxton Armbruster.
