Obituary

Marlene A. Froelich, age 83, a resident of the Town of Kossuth, passed into eternal life on March 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Marlene was born on August 1, 1942 in Mishicot to the late Edward and Loretta (Wollenburg) Kakes. She graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1960 and she continued her education at LTC.

On May 4, 1963, Marlene married James B. Froelich at St. Isador the Farmer Catholic Church, in Tisch Mills. She was a loving wife and mother, and a very dedicated homemaker. Marlene was active for 55 years in homemakers (HCE), volunteered her time for the organizations of Police Auxiliary board and St. Anne’s Christian Mothers.

Marlene also owned and operated her own Tax firm for 45 years and sat on the Advisory Board for the IRS. Her favorite summer pastime was camping and the annual Thresheree. Marlene was an excellent seamstress, including custom wedding dresses and the legendary baker of the family. If you visited, you would know how well the songbirds were treated at moms, even with a heated bird bath. Let’s not forget the avid Packer fan of the family.

Survivors include Marlene’s husband, Jim Froelich; children, Dori (Tony) Santos of Winter Park, FL, Brenda (Jon) Dahm, Manitowoc, Jeffrey (Christine) Froelich, Whitelaw, Michelle (John) Yanda, Cleveland; grandchildren, Brittanie Gosz, Trent (Samantha) Santos, Joshua (Emilie) Dahm, Brianna Dahm, Katherine Froelich and Nicole Froelich; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gosz, Riley Santos, Maverick Santos, Thorin and Samson Dahm; two brothers, Edward (Donna) Kakes, Ronald Kakes; three sisters, Diane Kakes, Karen Kakes and Cheryl Kakes.

She is also survived by 4 brothers-in-law, Kenneth (Jan) Froelich, Robert (Lynne) Froelich, Charles (Shirley) Froelich, Michael (Chrissy) Froelich; 5 sisters-in-law, Theresa Barta, Gladie Schommer, Mary (Richard) Augustine and Ann Froelich. Special friends Jeannie Kabot, Mary Reif and MaryEllen Howarth also survive in addition to many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death, by grandson Calvin Gosz, one brother, Eugene Kakes, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Regina Froelich; 5 brothers-in-law, Fran Froelich, Dan Stangel, Fred Mastalir, David Barta and Chuck Schommer, 4 sisters-in-law, Margaret Stangel, Catherine Mastalir, Barb Froelich, and Joan Froelich.

A funeral service will be held on March 10th, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. noon at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The family will greet relatives and friends from 9:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. with private entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum. 

There will be no Monday evening visitation.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marlene's name are appreciated. 

A future memorial fund will be established in her name. Marlene’s family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of Green Bay Oncology and Sharon Richardson Hospice, for all the care they provided.
