Obituary

Gregg L. "Gonzo" Gulbrand, passed away on August 7, 2026, after a 6-month battle with throat cancer.

Gregg was born March 6, 1951, to Vernon and Helen (VandeVelden) Gulbrand. He graduated from Kewaunee High School in 1969. He was declared 4F due to a heart murmur. After a semester or two of college, he took a backpack and headed for Europe.

Gonzo worked for many years as a welder and fabricator at Bay Ship, Kewaunee Fab, and Vollrath. When he was not working (which was his favorite time), he thoroughly enjoyed cooking. Along with that, he enjoyed sharing what he made with others.

Gregg liked to spend time with friends and family, having a cocktail, and telling old stories (or “rolling back the tapes” as he liked to say). If you saw him sitting at the party bar in the garage in Tisch Mills, that was an open invitation to stop. He also appointed himself as the unofficial “Mayor of Tisch Mills”. Gregg is survived by his five siblings: Jean Gulbrand, Joan (George) Murphy, Paul (Diane) Gulbrand, Chris (Tina) Gulbrand, and Julie (John) Engeldinger. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Charloette, Tristram, Jr., Bristol, Macey, Jaiden, and Bryice, along with nieces, nephews, many friends, and former wife, Deb Gulbrand.

Gregg was preceded in death by his son Tristram, his daughter-in-law April, his parents Vernon and Helen Gulbrand; and in-laws: Albert and June Prust.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home, 344 S. State Street in Mishicot. Visitation will take place from 4:00 until 6:00 pm, with a short prayer service to conclude the evening at 6:00 pm, led by Christal Wavrunek.

Gregg’s family would like to thank the staff at Eden Vista and Unity Hospice for their care of Gregg. Spending time on the deck at Eden Vista with Joe and Sheila made his time there much more tolerable.
